Couples Counseling Services

Relationships don’t have to be so complicated – our Chicago couples counselors work with you to strengthen what connections are already there.

Couples Counseling ChicagoYou couldn’t wait to be together. Hours passed like seconds. There was spark. There was chemistry.

You finished each other’s sentences. You were on the same page. There was connection.

Then, something happened. Stress. Money. Time. Kids. Family. In-laws. Just about anything can interfere with that closeness – that partnership you’ve formed. Conflict inevitably rears its ugly head.

Maybe you’ve considered counseling but haven’t dared to bring it up. It’s so difficult. But it doesn’t have to be!

Every couple faces challenges – whether you just started dating or have been married for 20 years or more. It’s important to explore the obstacles that may be interfering with your connection to your partner.

Something’s holding you back.

Couples Counseling ChicagoSeeking couples counseling doesn’t mean your relationship has serious problems or that you’re on the verge of a breakup or separation.

We believe all couples can benefit from counseling to help mitigate stress, conflicts, and other negative factors influencing the relationship.

Conflict is inevitable, but it doesn’t have to hurt your relationship.

Together, you’ll learn how to decrease unnecessary and unhelpful conflict while also incorporating tools and techniques to foster healthy conflict when it does arise.

Our goal is to remind you that you’ll learn how to work together against the issue, not each other.

Everyone has bad habits. Couples Counseling ChicagoAs individuals, we’ve all developed patterns over time – not all of them good – that impact our ability to embrace love and affection wholeheartedly. And we bring those individual patterns into our relationships. But couples therapy can help.

Couples therapy provides you with a safe, non-judgmental space to share thoughts and fears openly – a place where you and your partner will hear and be heard to better understand one another. Once we clear away the obstacles, you’ll once again see the partner with whom you fell in love.

You’ll strengthen your mutual trust, respect, and compassion.

You’ll emerge knowing you can handle even the toughest situation – together.

♥ Restorative Counseling is an LGBTQIA-affirming practice.

We can help!

Working together, we’ll tailor a variety of tools and approaches specifically to the issues you’re facing with your partner. And we’ll do this in a safe space for you to openly share concerns, discuss obstacles within the relationship, and other concerns which may be having an impact on your growth as an individual and as a couple.

We look forward to helping you and your partner navigate this journey together.

Your privacy is important to us, and confidentiality is an important piece of the therapeutic process. All your information is kept strictly confidential. However, there are specific exceptions:

  • With your signed permission, we may collaborate with other providers such as your psychiatrist or primary care physician
  • By law, we are required to break confidentiality and report to the appropriate authorities if we learn that you are a danger to yourself or others or if we learn of actual or threatened harm to those who are vulnerable such as children, elderly, or those with special needs.

Our paperwork details the limits of confidentiality, and we will discuss this more fully during our first appointment.

Often, people think they must be in crisis or that things must be “really bad” before they go to counseling. Counseling can help offer support and validation, determine if and how to make necessary changes, and achieve goals.

Maybe you worked with a counselor in the past but feel like things are becoming difficult again. This happens; life happens.

Just as with many things in life, we, too, may require ongoing maintenance to deal with new struggles or to continue managing ongoing stressors.

We work together to learn about your experience and determining what may be most useful for you.

We offer counseling services only, not medication management. However, we are happy to refer you to psychiatrist, or you can ask your primary care physician to assist you with medication management.

With your written consent, we can collaborate with your psychiatrist or physician regarding your mental health care.

We are in-network with a variety of insurance options. As an “in-network” provider, we have a contract with the insurance company so you are able to utilize your in-network health insurance benefits. There are many types of insurance plans within a network, so it is advised to call your insurance company to see if Restorative Counseling is covered in your network. A few of the many plans accepted by Restorative Counseling are:

  • Aetna
  • Aetna Student Health (Northwestern University students)
  • BlueChoice PPO
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO
  • Golden Rule
  • Meritain (not Meridian)
  • Optum
  • Oxford
  • United Behavioral Health
  • United Healthcare
  • United Healthcare Student Resources (for Loyola University Chicago students and University of Chicago students)
  • United Medical Resources (UMR)
