Teen Counseling Services

We understand that the teenage years can be difficult, Our clinicians can help teens and adolescents stay on track and work towards positive growth.

Child & Adolescent Counseling ChicagoTeens and emerging adults experience unique pressures. They need someone who gets them – who understands this pivotal period of development.

Every experience is a first — milestone, after milestone, after milestone.

At the same time, youth must navigate the difficult waters of discovering their personal identities, forming relationships, and learning how to handle competing demands.

Growing up is tough. Sometimes, it can be too much.

You feel helpless – maybe even heartbroken – watching your child struggle.

But don’t be discouraged

Child & Adolescent Counseling ChicagoTeens often need help making meaning of their experiences. While being faced with similar emotional challenges as adults, they may not know how to make sense of what is happening to them.

Teens may be more selective in what they share and with whom. The signs of mental health difficulties are not always as obvious in teens. They may not know how to effectively ask for help. Teens learning how to advocate for themselves and communicate their needs and concerns is critical to their success. We can navigate these barriers with your child and offer support so your child can learn how to manage their emotions. They can learn skills and gain tools to help them cope.

This is where we come in.

Child & Adolescent Counseling ChicagoOur goal is to utilize your child’s unique characteristics and strengths to overcome any obstacle in their path.

First, we’ll validate and help your child normalize his or her emotions during this trying time.

We feel strongly about encouraging your child to accept his or her own unique journey and the challenges it may present. Everyone faces many obstacles in life, and exploring barriers that prevent success is essential. All the while, we’ll focus on how to process and respond to the emotional responses and reactions that your child experiences in order to promote healing and emotional well-being.

We know you want your child to live a happy and healthy life. That’s why we work with you, as well, to help you understand your child’s unique needs and how you can assist your child to reach his or her goals.

Your privacy is important to us, and confidentiality is an important piece of the therapeutic process. All your information is kept strictly confidential. However, there are specific exceptions:

  • With your signed permission, we may collaborate with other providers such as your psychiatrist or primary care physician
  • By law, we are required to break confidentiality and report to the appropriate authorities if we learn that you are a danger to yourself or others or if we learn of actual or threatened harm to those who are vulnerable such as children, elderly, or those with special needs.

Our paperwork details the limits of confidentiality, and we will discuss this more fully during our first appointment.

Often, people think they must be in crisis or that things must be “really bad” before they go to counseling. Counseling can help offer support and validation, determine if and how to make necessary changes, and achieve goals.

Maybe you worked with a counselor in the past but feel like things are becoming difficult again. This happens; life happens.

Just as with many things in life, we, too, may require ongoing maintenance to deal with new struggles or to continue managing ongoing stressors.

We work together to learn about your experience and determining what may be most useful for you.

We offer counseling services only, not medication management. However, we are happy to refer you to psychiatrist, or you can ask your primary care physician to assist you with medication management.

With your written consent, we can collaborate with your psychiatrist or physician regarding your mental health care.

We are in-network with a variety of insurance options. As an “in-network” provider, we have a contract with the insurance company so you are able to utilize your in-network health insurance benefits. There are many types of insurance plans within a network, so it is advised to call your insurance company to see if Restorative Counseling is covered in your network. A few of the many plans accepted by Restorative Counseling are:

  • Aetna
  • Aetna Student Health (Northwestern University students)
  • BlueChoice PPO
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO
  • Golden Rule
  • Meritain (not Meridian)
  • Optum
  • Oxford
